Queen City Marathon for ActiveWater March 29, 2014
The Queen City Striders are hosting the 2nd annual Queen City Marathon for Active Water on the last Saturday of March. The 26.2 mile footrace will start at Canal Place near the historic Western Maryland Railway Station in historic Downtown Cumberland, MD. Participants will run approximately 3 miles on the C&O Canal towpath before turning around and heading back to Canal Place. Runners will then enter the Great Allegheny Passage. For approximately ten miles, the course follows a gradual, steady incline along the scenic rail trail. After the final turn-around, the course ends with a ten mile gentle downhill to the finish in front of the Canal Place stage.
Queen City Marathon for Active Water is USATF certified #MD13021LMJ and a Boston Qualifier.

The event is being held to support Active Water, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that uses the athletic lifestyle and grassroots campaigns to bring clean water and sanitation proceeds to needed communities throughout the globe. Our support is twofold. First, we want to spread awareness of the organization within the long-distance running community. Second, proceeds from the event will be used to build community wells in Zambia, Africa.
